“As my practice focuses on people, especially children, in transition, I bring all of my life experience to add to my legal accomplishments to make the process as bearable and positive as I can.”

Janet Lucas has represented schools since 2002. She has represented either the employee or the employer in various disputes, garnering favorable outcomes for her client. As an advocate for victims, she brings her 35 years of litigation skills to full force on their behalf.

Concurrent with her sons starting school, Janet became involved in education law, first as a member of her local board of education. As her awareness of the legal mandates and demands placed on education grew, so did her interest in pursuing education law. In her capacity representing schools, she has addressed and sometimes litigated teacher grievances, special education matters, bid issues, HIB investigations and other current education law concerns.

Having started her litigation experience in transactional law, Janet became knowledgeable in the issues and concerns of both sides of the employee/employer relationship. Her interest in employment law expanded, and she became experienced in issues such as handbook development and use, grievance process, investigations in the workplace, and related matters.

For many years, Ms. Lucas provided pro bono representation to victims of abuse or negligence, both adult and children. She served the Board of Trustees of North Jersey Legal services for five years. She is now actively advocating on behalf of targets of abuse, crimes, neglect, and harassment to protect them to the extent allowed by law. Janet is Legal Counsel to the Sussex County Technical School Board of Education. She teaches English at Pope John XXIII Regional High School and is also an Adjunct Professor at Sussex County Community College.
